What are cold sores?
Also known as fever blisters, cold sores are infections that are caused by the herpes simplex virus. When they appear, they typically emerge as a group of tiny fluid-filled blisters on the outside of your lips and mouth. In a few days, they will break open and crust over, before eventually healing. The entire process typically lasts one to two weeks without treatment.
About 40% of adults will experience recurrent cold sores, which can have a damaging effect on their quality of life and self-esteem. When this occurs, it may be in your best interest to treat cold sores proactively with laser therapy, rather than waiting for them to clear on their own.

Eliminating cold sores with laser technology
In the past, our Northridge patients only had a couple of options when it came to treating cold sores. You could either wait for the lesion to clear up on its own, or you could apply a variety of topical creams and medications to the area. Unfortunately, both of these options require a lengthy healing period, during which time you have to suffer with being uncomfortable and embarrassed by the lesion.
Fortunately, those days are long gone, and you no longer have to wait weeks for your cold sore to leave. Simply come into our Northridge office at the first sign of a lesion, and we’ll eliminate it in record time. The laser treatment for cold sores is done with the latest tools and by fully trained professionals. To begin, we’ll provide you with special eyewear to protect your eyes from the light of the laser. We will then apply the powerful laser to the cold sore, taking special care to ensure that the entire lesion is treated. Throughout this process, you won’t experience any pain or discomfort. Once your treatment is complete, you will be free to return home immediately with no downtime, and your lesion should disappear from view within a matter of days.
