What are dental implants?
Dental implants are metal or ceramic posts that are placed in the jawbone, in an area that would normally be occupied by the root of your missing tooth. Over time, your bone and tissue will grow around the post, creating a strong foundation for the placement of an artificial tooth. Once your smile is restored with permanent dental implants and artificial teeth, you can expect to enjoy a wide range of appealing benefits, including:
- Enhanced cosmetic appearance. Rest assured that your procedure will result in a smile that that looks and feels just like your regular teeth. Northridge.Dental provides patients some of the absolute best dental implants Northridge & Woodland Hills have to offer. As such, we help to ensure an exceptionally natural appearance.
- Improved comfort and functionality. Because dental implants fuse to the underlying bone, they become a permanent part of your mouth. As such, they can achieve a level of comfort and functionality that is simply not attainable with removable dentures.
- Renewed self-esteem. Missing teeth can have a profound impact on how you feel about yourself and your appearance. Replacing them with dental implants can renew your self-esteem and restore your confidence.
Are dental implants right for you?
Although many of our implant patients are interested in restoring their smiles with dental implants, they aren’t ideal for every client. In general, you will need to possess healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant in order to qualify for the procedure. You’ll also need to be committed to maintaining your follow-up visits with our office and practicing optimal oral hygiene moving forward, to ensure that your dental implants remain in optimal condition for years to come.
Restoring your smile with dental implants
Restoring your smile with dental implants requires a number of precise and fairly complex steps. To begin, our team will evaluate your mouth, teeth and jawbone to determine if dental implants are right for you. We will then perform a procedure to place the implant post in the socket of the missing tooth. With local anesthesia administered to make the procedure as comfortable as possible, we will then place the implant in the empty socket. Before proceeding to the next step of the implant process, healing of the implant site is required for a period of about twelve weeks. This affords the implant ample time to fuse to the underlying jawbone.
Once the healing process is complete, we will attach an abutment to the post, which is what will connect the implant to your prosthetic tooth. Careful impressions of your mouth are then made to create an accurate recreation of the artificial tooth (also called a crown) that looks, feels and functions just like your natural teeth. Once the crown has been created, we will attach it to your abutment, at which point your bright, healthy and beautiful smile will be completely restored.
